A delegation from the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) paid a courtesy visit to the family of the late music legend, Ebo Taylor, in Saltpond in the Cape Coast area.

The MUSIGA delegation, led by President Bessa Simons, visited the family of the late Ebo Taylor to sympathise with them and commence arrangements for a befitting burial for the late musician.

The delegation included General Secretary, S.K. Agyemang; Director of Special Projects and Communications, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey; and a member, Lady PJ. The delegation’s condolences reflect the music community’s deep respect for the legend who passed away on February 9.

The family was represented by Ebo Taylor’s widow, Elina Taylor, alongside his sons Kweku Taylor, Henry Taylor, and Deroy Ekow Taylor. Others were his cousin Angela Davis and nephews William Wallace Deheer, Kow Moore, and Joseph David Nyarko.

The one-week observance for Ebo Taylor is set for March 14 in Saltpond, his hometown.

Ebo Taylor was a highly respected musician who was a contemporary of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, with whom he played and established the rudiments of Afrobeat.

Ebo Taylor was a Ghanaian music legend, born on January 6, 1936, in Cape Coast. He’s a guitarist, composer, bandleader, and record producer who has been a vital presence in African music for over half a century.

Taylor’s music career started in the 1950s with influential highlife bands like the Stargazers and the Broadway Dance Band. In 1962, he moved to London to study at the London Eric Gilder School of Music, where he collaborated with Fela Kuti and other African musicians.

This experience shaped his unique sound, blending traditional Ghanaian music with Afrobeat, jazz, and funk. Some notable albums include ‘My Love and Music’, ‘Twer Nyame’, and ‘Me Kra Tsie’. Taylor’s contributions to Ghanaian music have earned him numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and the 2019 Highlife Music Awards. He also received the Music Legend of the Year award at the 2019 Ghana Business Awards.
