President Mahama Has Revealed His Plans For 2030
According to a report by GTV Ghana today being Monday, October 19, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his ambition to transform Ghanaâs mining sector by setting 2030 as the target year for ending the export of raw mineral ores from the country.
The President made the declaration in connection with the Mining in Motion Summit 2026, where the future of Africaâs mineral industry and the need to maximise the benefits of natural resources remain important issues.
Mahama indicated that his administration is determined to ensure that minerals extracted from Ghana are processed locally rather than exported in their raw state.
According to the President, the goal is to make Ghana move beyond the traditional practice of exporting unprocessed mineral resources and instead develop stronger domestic processing capabilities.
This approach is intended to help the country capture more value from its mineral wealth and create additional opportunities within the local economy.
The proposed policy direction could encourage investment in mineral processing facilities, industrial infrastructure and technologies needed to transform raw ores into products with greater commercial value.
It could also support the growth of related industries and provide opportunities for employment and skills development.
Ghana is endowed with valuable mineral resources, including gold and other commercially important ores. However, increasing the amount of processing carried out within the country would require careful planning, substantial investment and cooperation between the government and private-sector operators.
Mahamaâs 2030 deadline therefore represents an ambitious target for changing how Ghana manages and benefits from its mineral resources. Achieving it would depend on the development of suitable facilities, reliable infrastructure and policies that support local processing.
The Presidentâs statement at the Mining in Motion Summit 2026 underscores his administrationâs stated intention to promote greater domestic value addition and reduce the countryâs reliance on exporting minerals without first processing them locally.
