President Mahama Reveals New Plan to Make Ghana Benefit More From Its Gold Wealth
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana is expanding its local gold assaying, refining and related services to ensure the country captures a larger share of the economic value generated from its gold resources.
The initiative, being implemented through the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and the country’s gold refining policy, seeks to increase domestic participation across the gold value chain rather than relying primarily on the extraction and export of raw minerals.
Speaking at the Mining in Motion Conference on Monday, October 19, Mahama emphasised the importance of developing local expertise and infrastructure to process mineral resources and generate greater economic returns for the country.
“Through the Ghana Gold Board and our gold refining policy, we are working to retain more value through assaying, refining, and related services,” he said.
He explained that the government’s strategy was focused on retaining more value from gold production through local testing, refining and other related services.
