GoldBod Brought $10.8 Billion into Ghana in 2025 Through Small-Scale Gold Exports — Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Gold Board, popularly known as GoldBod, for its contribution to the country’s economic growth, crediting its regulation of small-scale gold exports with generating significant financial inflows into Ghana.
Speaking about the institution’s role in the gold sector, the President highlighted the results recorded through its oversight of small-scale gold trading and export activities, describing the board’s contribution as an important development for the national economy.
“GoldBod, through the regulation of small-scale gold exports, brought $10.8 billion into the country in 2025 alone,” President Mahama said.
The President’s statement highlights the importance of gold exports to Ghana’s economy, particularly their role in generating foreign exchange and supporting the country’s international trade activities.
GoldBod was established to regulate the purchase, sale and export of gold from the small-scale mining sector, with responsibilities aimed at improving transparency, strengthening oversight and ensuring that the trade operates within an organised regulatory framework.
The institution’s work is intended to bring greater structure to small-scale gold trading by overseeing transactions and helping channel gold exports through recognised systems.
Small-scale mining remains an important part of Ghana’s gold industry, involving miners, gold buyers, traders and exporters whose activities contribute to the country’s mineral production and export earnings.
By regulating this segment of the industry, GoldBod is expected to improve monitoring of gold transactions and strengthen the government’s ability to track the movement of the precious metal through formal trading channels.
President Mahama’s commendation reflects the government’s emphasis on the contribution of natural resources to national development, particularly when their trade is managed through established institutions and regulatory processes.
The foreign exchange generated through gold exports can support the country’s ability to meet international payment obligations and finance the importation of essential goods, although the broader economic benefits depend on how the proceeds are managed and distributed throughout the economy.
The President’s remarks also draw attention to the role of public institutions in ensuring that Ghana derives greater economic value from its mineral resources, with effective regulation considered an important part of managing the sector.
According to Mahama, GoldBod’s regulation of small-scale gold exports accounted for $10.8 billion in inflows during 2025, a contribution he cited in recognising the board’s role in Ghana’s economic development.
His commendation places the institution’s work within the government’s broader efforts to strengthen the management of gold trading and maximise the contribution of the mining sector to the national economy.
