I’ve Voted for NDC Since, but Kojo Bamba Has Made Me Switch to NPP — Man Declares

A middle-aged man who says he has been supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since has announced his decision to join the New Patriotic Party (NPP), attributing his change of political allegiance to the emergence of Kojo Bamba as the party’s newly elected First National Vice Chairman.

The man, whose declaration marks a departure from his longstanding political loyalty, reportedly explained that Bamba’s election to the national executive position had influenced his decision to reconsider the party he supports.

Having voted for the NDC for nearly three decades, the man’s stated decision represents a significant change in his political preference, particularly given the length of time he claims to have remained committed to the party.

His decision comes following Kojo Bamba’s election as the NPP’s First National Vice Chairman, a position that places him among the party’s key national officers and gives him a role in its organisational and political activities.

The man’s explanation suggests that Bamba’s leadership and political appeal played a central part in persuading him to consider the opposition party, rather than continuing to support the NDC as he has reportedly done since 1996.

Political allegiance in Ghana can be shaped by several factors, including the influence of party leaders, policy positions, local political developments and the performance of political organisations.

In this instance, however, the man specifically identified Bamba’s emergence within the NPP leadership as the reason behind his decision to abandon his longstanding support for the NDC.

His declaration also comes at a time when both major political parties continue to strengthen their structures and maintain relationships with supporters across the country.

For the NPP, the development presents an example of how the election of party executives can influence the perceptions of individuals who have traditionally supported rival political organisations.

The man’s announcement does not, by itself, establish whether other NDC supporters intend to make a similar move, but it demonstrates the personal influence he attributes to the newly elected NPP national officer.

After years of identifying with the NDC at the ballot box, the man says Kojo Bamba’s elevation to the NPP’s First National Vice Chairman position has persuaded him to change sides and support the party instead.
