Rev. Wengam: Christian Public Officers Must Not Compromise the Truth

Accra, Feb. 24, GNA –The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has urged Christians serving in public institutions to uphold truth and refuse to compromise their values under any circumstance.
He made the call during a thanksgiving service held in honour of the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Dzietror, at the Jehovah Shammah Assemblies of God in Accra. The service was attended by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
Rev. Wengam reminded Mr. Dzietror—who is also an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God—that his elevation to the high office of Clerk of Parliament was by divine appointment. He said only God’s grace and mercy would enable him to excel in the role.
The General Superintendent urged Mr. Dzietror to commit himself fully to diligent and dedicated service, anchored in humility, holiness and the fear of God. He stressed that the Bible remains the “supreme and real constitution” of the Assemblies of God, the world’s largest Pentecostal movement, and its doctrines guide the conduct of all members, including those in public service.
“Assemblies of God does not teach its members to go into public service and live anyhow but to follow the dictates of the Bible and the solid doctrine of the church,” he said.
Rev. Wengam noted that Mr. Dzietror serves not only in his personal capacity but as a representative of the Assemblies of God and of Christ in Parliament. He therefore charged him to uphold the virtues of integrity, honesty and Christlikeness in the discharge of his duties.
For his part, Mr. Dzietror pledged to uphold his Christian beliefs, values and principles as he serves in his new role as Clerk of Parliament.
