The bursar of Ghanata Senior High School (SHS), Lamisi Sarah, has been arrested for allegedly diverting food supplies meant for students.
The arrest was confirmed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Shai-Osudoku and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, in a Facebook post.
“As the Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku Constituency and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, I wish to place on record a disturbing development that recently came to my attention in the Greater Accra Region,” the post read.
According to the minister, her office recently received credible reports indicating that the bursar had been diverting portions of food supplies meant to support student welfare and proper nourishment of the students.
It stated, “Over the past few weeks, credible reports indicated that the bursar, Lamisi Sarah of Ghanata Senior High School had allegedly been diverting portion of food supplies intended for students,” adding that the food supplies “are meant to support the welfare and proper nourishment of our wards.”
Ms. Ocloo stated that the action contributes to a breach of public trust.
“Any interference with such resources is a serious breach of trust and public duty,” she stressed.
“Upon receiving the complaints, I immediately alerted the constituency’s National Security apparatus to help me conduct a discreet investigation. Yesterday, while I was present in the constituency, I confirmed the activity, and the suspect was apprehended in the act. I directed the officers to hand her over to the police so that due process can take its full course under the law,” she stated.
The minister pointed out that the incident is troubling and undermines public confidence in government institutions, stressing that the act affects the well-being of students placed under their care.
She assured the public that the matter will be pursued thoroughly and transparently to ensure accountability is upheld, and warned that any person found culpable will face the law.
