Kenya’s Job Ochieng’ scores again in Spain to help Real Sociedad B ease relegation fears

  • Job Ochieng’ scores again in Spain as his Real Sociedad B side beat Cadiz 2-0.
  • Ochieng stepped up in the 72nd minute to break the deadlock in the match.
  • The win helped Real Sociedad B move to 13th place, five points above relegation.

Harambee Stars attacker Job Ochieng’ continued his fine run of form in Spain after finding the back of the net in Real Sociedad B’s crucial 2-0 victory over Cádiz CF in the Segunda División on Monday night.

The 20-year-old was once again at the heart of the action as Sanse strengthened their fight for survival with an important away win at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

With the game finely balanced and chances at a premium, Ochieng stepped up in the 72nd minute to break the deadlock.

Latching onto a well-timed pass from Jon Balda, the Harambee Stars attacker kept his composure and slotted home to silence the home crowd and hand the visitors a deserved lead.

Real Sociedad B remained disciplined at the back before putting the result beyond doubt deep into stoppage time. Lander Astiazaran added the second goal, once again assisted by Balda, to wrap up a performance that underlined the visitors’ determination to avoid the drop.

For Ochieng, it was another statement moment in what is quickly becoming a breakthrough season in Spain’s second tier.

The goal marked his second in as many matches, having scored the winner against Málaga the previous week. He now has four league goals in 18 appearances this campaign, numbers that reflect his growing influence in the side.

His recent performances come shortly after he committed his future to Real Sociedad, signing a contract extension on February 20, 2026, that will keep him at the Basque club until June 2028.

The new deal is a show of faith in the Kenyan youngster, who has steadily grown into a key figure within the squad under head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.

Earlier this month, Ochieng also made history by becoming only the third Kenyan to feature in La Liga after making his top-flight debut against Elche on February 7.

He joins the list that includes McDonald Mariga and Michael Olunga. Since then, he has also been named on the bench in high-profile fixtures against Real Madrid and Barcelona, further highlighting the trust the technical bench has placed in him.

Back home, Ochieng remains an important figure for Harambee Stars under coach Benni McCarthy having  recently featured in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and will be hoping to make the squad when Harambee Stars hit the camp for the upcoming FIFA Series friendly matches slated for March.

The win lifted Real Sociedad B to 31 points, easing immediate relegation fears in what remains a tightly contested Segunda División table.

Meanwhile, Cádiz continues to have a Kenyan connection of its own. Youngster Jack Ong’anya, who is rising through the club’s youth ranks having made the switch from SportPesa League side KCB in the just concluded mid-season transfer window, made an impact for Cádiz CF Mirandilla over the weekend.

Coming off the bench at halftime with his side trailing by two goals, Ong’anya played a role in inspiring a spirited comeback as Cádiz B secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Córdoba CF B at the Ciudad Deportiva.
