Dr Ogum's permanent appointment signals a strategic shift toward stability at the youth level Dr Ogum’s permanent appointment signals a strategic shift toward stability at the youth level

The Ghana Football Association has reaffirmed its commitment to long-term planning and youth development by securing National Under-17 head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum on a two-year contract, a decisive move aimed at restoring the pride and dominance of the Black Starlets on the continental stage.

Dr Ogum, who succeeded Frimpong Manso, has already delivered an early statement of intent by guiding the team to qualification for the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for April.

His permanent appointment signals a strategic shift toward stability, structure and sustained growth at the youth level.

Expressing appreciation for the confidence shown in him, the highly regarded tactician emphasised that the mission goes beyond short-term results.

“I am grateful to the Ghana Football Association for the trust and stability this contract provides. Our focus is clear: to build a technically sound, tactically disciplined and mentally strong team that can compete at the highest level in Africa. We are not just preparing for a tournament; we are building a foundation for the future of Ghana football.”

Beyond the touchline, Dr Ogum serves as the GFA’s Head of Education, a dual role that underscores his deep-rooted commitment to structured player development, technical excellence, and sustainable growth pathways.

His pedigree speaks volumes. He famously led Asante Kotoko SC to the Ghana Premier League title in 2022 and previously steered WAFA SC to an impressive second-place league finish.

His resume also includes managerial spells at Ebusua Dwarfs and experience as assistant coach of the Black Galaxies, equipping him with valuable national team insight.

With preparations already intensifying ahead of the continental showpiece, Dr Ogum is focused on assembling a competitive, cohesive and battle-ready squad capable of reclaiming Ghana’s stature in youth football.

The GFA has pledged full technical and logistical backing to support the project, reinforcing what many see as the dawn of a new era, one built on stability, vision and a deliberate investment in the future of Ghana football.
