George Natembeya Fires Back at Ruto With Cryptic Whiskey Message
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has sent President William Ruto a cryptic message following the president’s remarks about Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The governor shared a satirical image on social media that appeared to mock the president’s comments.
On Wednesday October 14 Natembeya posted an image showing a fictional whisky brand carrying his name. He captioned the image with a message that attracted attention from Kenyans online. The governor wrote that his drink was distilled and blended for those who lead and not those who beg.
The message appeared to be a response to Ruto’s remarks during a public rally in West Pokot County. The president had criticised Sifuna following the launch of his new political party known as The Equitable Party. Ruto also mocked the senator over his attendance at an event where expensive alcoholic drinks were seen on a table.
The president questioned Sifuna’s political ambitions and used humorous remarks to challenge his leadership ability. His comments mentioned popular whisky brands and included the name Natembeya in a joking manner. Natembeya’s response quickly attracted reactions from different social media users. Some Kenyans found the governor’s message entertaining while others questioned the use of alcohol in political arguments. Several users also shared their opinions about the growing exchange between the political leaders.
The incident comes at a time when political activities are increasing ahead of the 2027 General Election. Natembeya has been associated with opposition leaders who have criticised the current administration. His latest social media post has therefore added another chapter to the growing political rivalry.
Ruto and Natembeya have also disagreed over development issues in Trans Nzoia County. The president has accused the governor of frustrating government projects while Natembeya has defended his leadership and insisted that elected governors have a responsibility to serve their residents.
The latest exchange shows how social media has become an important platform for political communication in Kenya. Leaders are increasingly using online posts to respond to criticism and communicate their positions to supporters. However the reactions to Natembeya’s message show that Kenyans hold different views about the use of humour in politics. As the 2027 elections approach political exchanges between government and opposition leaders are likely to attract even more public attention.
