All Eyes on Gideon Moi as He Is Set to Expose What Went Wrong With His Handshake With Ruto

KANU chairman Gideon Moi is preparing to return to the political spotlight amid fresh questions about his relationship with President William Ruto.

The renewed attention comes at a time when a dispute over a family property near Eldoret State Lodge has added tension to the political relationship between the two leaders.

Moi’s expected public appearance on Friday, October 23, comes as Kenyans await to see whether he will address the issues surrounding his understanding with Ruto and explain KANU’s direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The relationship between the two leaders appeared to improve in October 2025, when Moi met Ruto at State House. The meeting attracted attention because the KANU chairman had previously supported the opposition during the 2022 presidential election.

Moi later withdrew from the Baringo senatorial race, a move that fuelled discussion about possible political cooperation between KANU and Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance.

However, the recent dispute over land belonging to the family of former President Daniel arap Moi has raised fresh questions about that relationship.

On October 17, 2026, General Service Unit officers reportedly entered the family’s five-acre property opposite Eldoret State Lodge and ordered workers to leave.

Through lawyer Moses Mutisya, the family claimed it had owned the land since 1996 and challenged the circumstances surrounding the occupation. The lawyer warned that legal action could follow if the matter was not resolved.

The government has also raised concerns about encroachment on land belonging to State Houses and State Lodges, although the specific legal basis for the reported occupation of the Moi family’s property remains unclear.

The incident has attracted reactions from political leaders, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who criticised the reported takeover and called for respect for property rights.

With the 2027 elections approaching, Gideon Moi’s next steps could provide clues about KANU’s political direction and its relationship with the current administration.

Will Moi address the land dispute and clarify where KANU stands ahead of the 2027 elections?
