Tinubu Explains Why He Won’t Attend Every APC Campaign Activities Ahead of 2027

According to report by Vanguard on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, President Bola Tinubu has asked members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to take responsibility for campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election, saying he cannot be expected to attend every event across the country.

Tinubu made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

He explained that, despite the importance of the election campaign, he needed to remain focused on governing the country and addressing Nigeria’s economic and financial obligations.

The President said he accepted the advice that campaign activities should not interfere with his responsibilities as Nigeria’s leader, stressing that the country currently required his full attention.

According to him, members of the council would have to excuse him from joining them at every campaign stop because the government had important financial commitments to fulfil.

“You will excuse me from going everywhere with you; we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” Tinubu said.

He also emphasised the need for Nigeria to attract investors prepared to establish long-term businesses in the country.

Such investments, he noted, would help create a stronger economic future for the younger generation.

Tinubu, however, assured Nigerians that his decision to limit his participation in campaign tours would not prevent him from communicating directly with citizens.

He said he would still make time to address Nigerians while the campaign council coordinated mobilisation efforts across states and local government areas.

The President described the inauguration of the campaign council as more than the formal launch of an election structure.

He said it represented a renewed commitment to Nigerians and the responsibility entrusted to the APC as the governing party.

He charged the council to take the administration’s vision, achievements and plans to voters nationwide and work towards securing victory for the party in every ward.

Tinubu also praised APC members for successfully completing the party’s congresses, recalling predictions that the process could trigger a major internal crisis.

He said the party had successfully navigated the challenges and remained united, commending members for participating in the exercise from the ward level through to the national leadership.

Tinubu maintained that the party’s ability to overcome the predicted divisions demonstrated its resilience and collective commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.
