Public Money Belongs To The People Of Ghana, Not Government Officials – Ato Forson

According to a report by UTV Ghana todag being Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has emphasised that public funds belong to the people of Ghana and not government officials, stressing that those entrusted with managing the country’s resources must handle them responsibly and in the best interests of citizens.

According to him, government officials are only custodians of public resources and must recognise that the money available to the state is meant to serve the needs of the entire population. He maintained that public funds should be managed with transparency, accountability and a strong commitment to national development.

Dr. Forson’s remarks highlight the importance of responsible financial management in public institutions, particularly at a time when citizens expect government spending to translate into meaningful improvements in their living conditions. He stressed that occupying a public office does not give individuals personal ownership of the nation’s resources.

Public funds are generated through various means, including taxes, duties and other government revenues. These resources are expected to support essential services such as education, healthcare, road construction, sanitation and other developmental projects that directly benefit the population.

His position also reinforces the need for public officials to remain accountable for decisions involving government expenditure. Those responsible for managing state finances are expected to ensure that resources are used for their intended purposes and that public spending delivers value for money.

The statement serves as a reminder that public office comes with significant responsibilities and should not be treated as an opportunity for personal gain. Government officials must therefore demonstrate integrity and ensure that the interests of ordinary Ghanaians remain central to their decisions.

Dr. Forson’s comments underline a fundamental principle of democratic governance: the nation’s resources belong to its people, while those in authority have a duty to protect and manage them responsibly for the benefit of present and future generations.
