COMAC Projects Petrol and Diesel Price Reductions Effective October 16
The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has projected that fuel prices at the pumps will experience a decline beginning October 16, offering some relief to motorists and consumers across the country. According to COMAC’s latest projections, the price of petrol is expected to drop by approximately 1.67 percent, while diesel is anticipated to fall by about 3.32 percent. This development comes as welcome news to many Ghanaians who have been grappling with the high cost of living and transportation expenses in recent months.
The projected reductions are attributed to favorable movements in the international oil market and adjustments in the pricing mechanisms that influence local fuel costs. COMAC, which represents the interests of oil marketing companies in Ghana, indicated that the expected decreases reflect prevailing market conditions and should translate into lower prices at fuel stations nationwide if the trends hold.
Industry analysts have noted that fuel prices in Ghana are heavily influenced by factors such as the exchange rate between the cedi and major foreign currencies, global crude oil prices, and government taxes and levies on petroleum products. The anticipated drop suggests that some of these variables have shifted favorably in recent weeks, creating room for a downward adjustment at the pumps.
Consumers have long complained about the financial burden imposed by persistently high fuel prices, which affect not only transportation costs but also the prices of goods and services across the economy. A reduction in petrol and diesel prices is therefore expected to ease some of the pressure on households and businesses alike.
COMAC has advised motorists and the general public to monitor official price announcements from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and individual oil marketing companies to confirm the actual adjustments when they take effect. The chamber also reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in fuel pricing while urging stakeholders to work together to stabilize the petroleum sector. The projected decreases, if realized, would mark a positive shift in the ongoing efforts to make fuel more affordable for Ghanaians.
