Poisoned? Details Emerge on How Bomet Nurse Secretly Killed His Wife Before Committing Suicide
Details have emerged on how Bomet nurse killed his wife before committing suicide at his residence.
Postmortem findings suggest that Viola Cherotich Kirui, a primary school teacher, was injected with a poisonous substance by her husband, Joseph Kipkorir Kirui, a nurse at Longisa County Referral Hospital in Bomet. The couple were found dead at their home in Segerot village, Chepalungu Constituency, Bomet County, leaving their three children without their parents.
Medical examinations reportedly revealed signs of strangulation around Viola’s neck. Samples collected from her body were sent to the Government Chemist for further analysis to establish whether poisoning caused her death.
Police suspect Joseph killed his wife before taking his own life. However, investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The incident shocked relatives, who said the couple had appeared cheerful shortly before their deaths. According to family members, Joseph and Viola had travelled to Bomet town together before returning home, with no obvious signs of trouble.
The couple had been married for 21 years. Their deaths left their three children facing an uncertain future without the care and support of their parents.
During their burial in Segerot village, relatives appealed to the Bomet County government, local leaders and well wishers to help provide for the children’s education and basic needs, citing financial difficulties.
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok urged couples experiencing relationship problems to seek professional counselling and support from trusted relatives and friends before disagreements escalate.
Chepalungu MP Victor Koech also called for peaceful ways of resolving domestic conflicts, while officials from the Kenya National Union of Teachers expressed concern over cases of domestic violence resulting in deaths. The officials urged couples who can no longer resolve their differences to consider peaceful separation rather than resort to violence.
As investigations continue, the family is left seeking answers about the tragedy while working to secure a better future for the three children.
