2027: APC Makes Major Move In Kano As Abba Yusuf, Ganduje, Shekarau Head 155-Member Campaign Council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has unveiled a 155-member Campaign Advisory Council to coordinate and provide strategic direction for its preparations for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.

According to a report by Premium Times on October 14, 2026, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will head the council, which will serve as the party’s highest advisory body for campaign activities in the state.

The council comprises influential political figures, including former Kano governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Ganduje.

Also appointed to the body are three former military administrators of the state: Habibu Shuaibu, Lawan Jafaru-Isa and Yakubu Bako.

The Kano APC Chairman, Umar Doguwa, said the membership also includes Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, Senators Kawu Sumaila and Rufa’i Hanga, as well as all APC candidates and members of the House of Representatives representing Kano State.

The advisory council will oversee the party’s campaign strategy and provide guidance to its operational Campaign Directorate, whose membership is expected to be announced later.

The move comes shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released its final list of governorship candidates for Kano State, featuring Governor Yusuf and 16 other contenders.

While the APC has moved ahead with its campaign preparations, the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) are yet to announce their campaign councils.

The NDC is also facing a challenge following the omission of its Kano governorship candidate, Aminu Abdulsalam, from INEC’s list; The development has raised concerns within the party as it considers legal and administrative options to address the situation ahead of the governorship election.
