Julian Alvarez Makes Huge Decision Which Gives Arsenal Transfer Advantage

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Wednesday October 14, 2026, Julian Alvarez has reportedly ended his long-term partnership with agent Fernando Hidalgo and is preparing to work with a new representative.

The decision could provide Arsenal with an opportunity to revisit their interest in the Atletico Madrid forward ahead of the January transfer window. However, his future remains uncertain, with his current club maintaining a strong position over his potential departure.

According to Spanish reports, Alvarez has parted ways with Hidalgo, who represented him from his River Plate days through his transfers to Manchester City and Atletico Madrid. The development follows a difficult summer in which the Argentine reportedly explored the possibility of leaving Atletico.

Alvarez expressed his desire to leave during the World Cup, with Barcelona identified as his preferred destination. However, Atletico refused to negotiate with their domestic rivals. Arsenal also showed considerable interest in signing the forward, but a deal failed to materialise before the transfer deadline.

The situation created tension between Atletico and Alvarez’s representatives. Club chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin reportedly accused Hidalgo of misleading and confusing the player. Nevertheless, Atletico are understood to hold Alvarez himself less responsible for the disagreement.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Alvarez has selected Pablo Barquero, who also represents Rodri, as his new agent. An agreement is reportedly expected soon, while his father has played an important role in the process.

Although the change could influence future negotiations, it does not guarantee an immediate transfer. A move next summer has also been discussed as a more realistic possibility. Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly indicated that the Catalan club is no longer interested.

Arsenal could benefit if Alvarez becomes available. The 26-year-old can operate as a centre-forward, second striker or winger, while his pressing ability and Premier League experience make him an attractive option for Mikel Arteta.

However, Atletico’s reported €150 million valuation remains a significant obstacle. Alvarez scored 20 goals in 52 appearances last season, including against Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final. The Gunners will continue monitoring developments as uncertainty surrounds his future.
