Vincent Kompany Sets Record Straight As Arsenal Get Boost From Michael Olise Red Card

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has admitted that Michael Olise’s red card against Viking could have significant consequences for the German champions ahead of their Champions League clash with Arsenal.

According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the winger will miss next week’s meeting with the Gunners after being sent off during Bayern’s dramatic encounter in Norway.

Bayern surrendered a late equaliser in their match against Viking after Olise received a second yellow card for throwing the ball at Zlatko Tripic’s head.

The French international had earlier been booked for a tactical foul, leaving Kompany without one of his most influential attacking players for the trip to the Allianz Arena.

The dismissal represents a potential advantage for Arsenal, who defeated Lille 3-0 to record their second consecutive Champions League victory and maintain their strong start to the competition.

Kompany acknowledged the winger’s mistake but insisted that the incident could become a learning experience for the 24-year-old.

“He knows he made a mistake. You can see that he’s sorry about what happened and that he regrets letting the team down,” the Bayern manager said.

He added: “That’s absolutely fine – these things happen. Today wasn’t a final or a semi final, but these are the kinds of moments that can have a decisive impact on a season.”

Kompany also suggested that Olise had allowed his opponent to provoke him unnecessarily.

“I told him that the opponent outsmarted him. We can’t change that now. Hopefully we can look back on this as a moment when we learned a lesson.”

Olise has been one of Bayern’s standout performers this season, registering eight goals and four assists across all competitions.

He also contributed four goals and two assists during France’s four Nations League matches over the international break.

His absence will therefore be a significant concern for Kompany as Bayern prepare to face an Arsenal side seeking to continue their impressive European run.

Bayern striker Harry Kane also acknowledged the consequences of the dismissal, saying Olise would have to accept responsibility and learn from the incident.

“It’s a shame because obviously we have big games coming up in the Champions League now and he’s going to be gutted to miss those games. But this is football. Sometimes mistakes can happen, it’s life,” Kane said.
