€111m Chelsea Star Told to Leave in the January Window Amid Lack of Game Time Under Xabi Alonso
According to a report by Metro on October 13, 2026, €111m Chelsea winger Estevao Willian has been urged to consider leaving Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window, with former Blues winger Pat Nevin questioning whether the Brazilian youngster is suited to life under manager Xabi Alonso.
Chelsea secured Estevao’s signature from Palmeiras in 2025 after competing with several major European clubs for the highly rated teenager. The Brazilian arrived in England with enormous expectations after demonstrating his attacking quality in his homeland.
During his previous season, Estevao scored eight goals in 36 appearances, offering glimpses of the talent that convinced Chelsea to invest in his future. However, his development has been carefully managed, with former managers Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior controlling his involvement in the first team.
The situation has become more challenging following Alonso’s arrival at Stamford Bridge. The Spanish manager’s 3-4-2-1 formation has limited Estevao’s opportunities, and the 19-year-old is yet to start a Premier League match under his leadership this season.
With Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers competing for attacking positions, Estevao faces a difficult battle to secure regular playing time. The lack of opportunities has also fuelled speculation about his future, with a potential January departure becoming a subject of discussion.
Nevin believes the Brazilian has the potential to become an outstanding footballer but questions whether Chelsea is the right environment for him to develop.
Speaking to CasinoHawks, the former Chelsea winger praised Estevao’s ability while suggesting that the club’s expectations and approach to developing players could prevent the teenager from reaching his full potential in west London.
Nevin argued that Chelsea do not always provide young players with enough time to establish themselves, particularly when competition for places is intense. He believes Estevao could benefit from moving to a club where he would receive more consistent opportunities to develop his game.
The former winger suggested that Spain could be a suitable destination for the Brazilian, while France and Germany could also offer environments better suited to his playing style. He mentioned Paris Saint-Germain as a possible example of a club that could appeal to the youngster.
Nevin also acknowledged that there are few Premier League clubs that would be suitable destinations for Estevao, particularly given the financial demands of securing his services.
Despite the criticism, Alonso has indicated that Estevao remains part of his plans for the season. The Chelsea manager recently explained that the winger was feeling better after recovering from an injury and would receive more opportunities as the campaign progressed.
Alonso also stressed that the demands of Premier League football differ from international football, suggesting that the coaching staff would carefully manage Estevao’s development.
Chelsea will return to action against Everton on Saturday, providing another opportunity for the manager to assess his attacking options.
