Why Fubara Isn’t Coordinating Tinubu’s
Campaign in Rivers – Wike

According to a report by The Vanguard on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has explained why he is coordinating President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in Rivers State instead of the sitting governor.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja, Wike noted that Rivers stands out as the only state where the presidential campaign is not coordinated by the incumbent governor.

According to him, the unique political landscape of the state requires a specific brand of leadership and someone with total stakeholder buy-in.

“Look, in an election, it takes a lot of leadership; there are a lot of things that are involved. You require somebody who has a buy-in,” Wike stated.

The minister dismissed claims that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been marginalized or pushed aside in the state’s political structure. He maintained that Fubara will participate actively at every level of the campaign, spanning from state to national tiers.

“No, he has not been pushed aside. Of course, Fubara is fully a member, fully plays his part. If he is not a member, why do you think we are hosting meetings in his house? Do you know what it takes to host meetings of that calibre?” Wike asked.

Wike added that the primary focus for Governor Fubara remains keeping his political family intact and safeguarding its future influence, regardless of other political permutations.
