Ghanaian reggae and dancehall icon Emmanuel Andrews Samini, known by his stage name Samini, has hinted at a possible venture into politics, expressing willingness to serve in his hometown in the Upper West Region, citing it as one of the country’s most deprived areas.

“Where I come from, Upper West is one of the deprived regions, and should I step up to serve, it would be beneficial to my people. For now, never say never. Fingers crossed,” he noted.

The “My Own” hitmaker stated on the GTV Breakfast Show today, February 18, that if the need arises, he believes his contribution would be beneficial to the people of the region.

Samini emphasised his readiness to seize any opportunity that comes his way, saying, “I haven’t stopped reading because I believe we need to be statesman-worthy, appointment-worthy for whenever the need arises.”

His comments suggest a potential shift from music to public service, pending the right circumstances.

The announcement comes as Samini has released his much-anticipated eighth studio album ORIGIN8A, a 16-track project that reaffirms his legendary status while celebrating his musical heritage.

ORIGIN8A blends reggae, African dancehall, highlife, afrobeats and Afro-pop, showcasing the artist’s journey and influence in contemporary African music.

The album features collaborations with several acclaimed artists, including Stonebwoy, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, M.anifest, Mugeez, Kaakie, the Soweto Gospel Choir and producer Mix Master Garzy on several tracks.

The official tracklist for ORIGIN8A is:
