Severe risk late Tuesday, cooling down soon

Our next system has begun to dip down into the Sunflower State from the north. It will not only spark some showers and storms later today but it will also bring a temperature change. A stretch of unseasonably warm highs will begin to break to the north and west.

There is a small chance for a shower or storm through this morning and as we head into the afternoon. There is a better chance for storms later this afternoon and evening. Chances will gradually go up through the afternoon.

A front will be oriented from the southwest to the northeast. This is where the greatest risk for strong to severe storms will be. All forms of severe weather will be possible.

In addition to the severe threat there will also be potential for heavy rainfall. A Flood Watch for portions of South Central Kansas will be in effect between 5pm today and 10am Wednesday. Any flooding is expected to be localized. Use extra caution around low-lying and flood prone areas.

Storm strength and severity will need to be monitored through the evening. There will still be showers and thunderstorms around through the overnight and into Wednesday.

The middle of the week will be damp at times with rain and rumbles around. Stormy activity will be on and off and there will be considerable cloudiness.

Temperatures will continue to come down Wednesday. Highs will mainly be in the 50s to the 70s. One or two spots to the southeast could still reach the low 80s.

A chance for rain lingers through Thursday but most of the moisture in the region will get carried to the east and to the north. The end of the week will be much cooler compared to how it started. Temperatures will warm back up after Friday but we will still be close to seasonal standards.
