Las Vegas teen accused of deadly First Friday shooting to remain in custody

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) β€” The teenager accused of opening fire at First Friday in downtown Las Vegas, killing a 15-year-old and wounding two other teens, appeared in court Tuesday. A judge ordered him to remain in custody.

Issac Manriquez, 17, will be charged as an adult in connection with the deadly shooting.

The shooting happened on Oct. 2, near South Main Street and West Charleston Boulevard, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene after hearing shots fired and located 2 people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A third victim was located by additional officers arriving on the scene.

All 3 victims were taken to the hospital, where one of them died. The Clark County coroner later identified him as a 15-year-old Carth Onasi Jacobs-Rodgers.

Police later arrested Manriquez and booked him into juvenile hall for murder with a deadly weapon and two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon. He first appeared in a juvenile courtroom before next appearing in the Las Vegas Justice Court last Thursday.

Sources told the 8 News Now Investigators that Manriquez has a history in the juvenile justice system and had been on probation at one point. Manriquez is being held without bail.

A Las Vegas Metro police investigation revealed that the shooting at the First Friday event may have been gang-related, according to a police arrest report obtained by 8 News Now.

As police conducted interviews with witnesses, they located Manriquez days after the shooting to question him about the incident. The teen eventually told police he was part of a well-known gang. He added that another gang had the intention to fight his gang. He added that he was unsure of how it began, but after a short exchange of words and declaring where they were from, a physical altercation ensued, according to the report.

Police also obtained surveillance video of the moments before the shooting. During the fight, Manriquez is seen on video fighting with Carth and another boy, and running up the stairs near a food truck. Carth is then seen in the video suddenly taking steps away from Manriquez, and Manriquez raising his arm and hand, and shots are then fired, according to the arrest report.

On Monday, 8 News Now obtained 911 calls made after the shooting. In the calls, several different people report hearing shots fired. Another call involved a person helping his friend who was shot in the leg. Read more and listen to the calls here.

At Tuesday’s court appearance, a Las Vegas judge ordered Manriquez to remain in custody until his next hearing, which was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 9 a.m.
