A Female Teacher Receives KSh 150,000 Via M-Pesa Before Being Arrested by Detectives in Bungoma
A teacher in Bungoma County has been arrested over claims that she collected money from jobless teachers after promising to help them get employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Lilian Nelima Buluma, who teaches at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School, was arrested on October 12, 2026, by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).Investigations indicate that Buluma allegedly asked three unemployed teachers to pay KSh 100,000 each, promising to help them secure teaching positions. The total amount she reportedly requested was KSh 300,000.
According to the commission, the teacher had already received KSh 150,000 through M-Pesa before her arrest.
The money is suspected to have been part of the payments allegedly demanded from the job seekers.
Buluma is accused of claiming that she had links with officials at the TSC and other government offices, which she said would enable her to help the applicants obtain employment.
The three teachers allegedly gave her money in the hope that she would help them secure jobs. However, the allegations have not yet been proven in court, and investigations are still ongoing.
Following her arrest, Buluma was taken to the EACC Western Regional Office for processing. She was later booked at Bungoma Police Station as detectives continued investigating the matter.
The commission said the teacher could be charged with requesting and receiving a bribe under Section 6, read together with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act of 2016.
If the allegations are established in court, she could face legal penalties under the law.
The incident highlights the risks job seekers face when dealing with people who claim to have special connections with government officials. Unemployed teachers are encouraged to follow official recruitment procedures and avoid paying individuals who promise to secure jobs in exchange for money.
The EACC has maintained its commitment to investigating corruption and promoting honesty in public service. Further investigations will establish the full details of the alleged bribery and determine the appropriate legal action.
