REVEALED: Why Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel Reportedly Clashed at Machoka’s Jubilee Concert

A concert meant to celebrate fifty years in broadcasting for veteran presenter Fred Obachi Machoka has drawn attention for reports of friction between two Congolese rhumba legends, Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel.

The event took place on Saturday, 10 October, at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi, where thousands of fans gathered. The lineup also included Sam Fan Thomas, Les Wanyika, Them Mushrooms, Alicios Theluji and Freshly Mwamburi, with Jeff Koinange and Churchill as hosts.

Insiders say the programme ran late. By the time Koffi was due on stage, both he and Mbilia Bel were reportedly ready to perform at once. Organisers allegedly asked Mbilia Bel to wait so Koffi could go first, but she declined and her team went ahead with her set.

Koffi and his team were said to be visibly unhappy backstage. A leaked programme reportedly showed Mbilia Bel was scheduled for 8.35 pm and Koffi for 10 pm.

The two artists are also said to have a long rivalry, with each making sharp remarks about the other in past interviews.

Later in the night, after Koffi finished performing, Machoka invited him to stay on stage, dance and help cut the anniversary cake.

A video that spread widely online shows Koffi raising both hands and walking away while Machoka tries to persuade him to remain. Some reports say he was tired after his show, while others link his exit to the earlier dispute.

Despite the drama, both singers completed their performances and the crowd enjoyed the night. Machoka thanked fans and called the concert a success.

Neither Koffi nor Mbilia Bel has made a public statement. The claims of a backstage clash come from insider sources and have not been confirmed.
