Justin Muturi Raises Alarm Over Alleged Ebola Screening Failures and Possible Public Exposure

Democratic Party of Kenya (DPK) leader Justin Muturi has called for an independent investigation into alleged lapses in the handling of Kenya’s Ebola case, raising questions about airport screening, hospital procedures and the identification of people who may have been exposed.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, the former Attorney General urged the Ministry of Health, airport authorities and the hospital involved to establish what happened when the suspected patient travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Kenya.

Muturi said information shared with him by a whistleblower raised concerns about how the individual was cleared at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) before being taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to the allegations, the patient was reportedly allowed to proceed following a telephone communication. Muturi questioned whether the appropriate screening and reporting procedures had been followed and whether the circumstances surrounding the patient’s arrival were properly documented.

He also raised concerns about possible contact between the patient and healthcare workers, other patients and members of the public after admission to the hospital.

The DPK leader further questioned whether medical personnel had received complete information about the patient’s travel history and whether family members had visited the facility during the period in question.

Muturi stressed that the claims needed independent verification, noting that any established breach of public health procedures would require accountability and measures to prevent a similar occurrence.

He called on Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to explain the screening arrangements in place at JKIA when the patient arrived and establish whether healthcare workers had received adequate information and protective equipment.

The former Cabinet Secretary also sought details on how authorities were identifying people who might have come into contact with the patient, assessing their exposure and arranging appropriate medical monitoring.

He argued that Kenyans needed clear, evidence-based information about the government’s response, including the care provided, preventive measures introduced and steps taken to limit the risk of further transmission.

Muturi urged the Ministry of Health, the relevant airport authorities and the hospital concerned to preserve records and reconstruct the sequence of events from the patient’s arrival through subsequent medical care.

He said an independent inquiry should establish whether any safeguards were breached and recommend corrective measures where necessary.

The DPK leader also emphasised that the investigation should protect the patient’s confidentiality and sensitive personal information while ensuring that the findings are communicated to the public.

His demands come as questions emerge over the handling of Kenya’s Ebola case and the measures being taken to identify contacts and prevent further infections.

The allegations surrounding the airport screening and hospital procedures have yet to be independently established. The proposed investigation would help determine whether the relevant protocols were followed and whether any shortcomings occurred.
