According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday October 11, 2026, Liverpool and Manchester City played out a goalless first half, with both teams creating opportunities but struggling to find the breakthrough. Gianluigi Donnarumma made important saves to keep Liverpool scoreless.

Liverpool threatened through Victor Munoz and Lewis Koumas, while Manchester City created chances through Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki. Both defences remained organised, ensuring neither side scored before the interval.

The second half changed dramatically when Ryan Gravenberch received his second yellow card in the 62nd minute, leaving Liverpool with ten men. Manchester City capitalised on their numerical advantage and increased their attacking pressure.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 65th minute, reacting quickly to a rebound inside the penalty area before firing into the bottom-left corner. His goal gave Manchester City a crucial advantage.

Jeremy Doku doubled City’s lead in the 68th minute with an excellent finish. After controlling a precise pass, he struck from the edge of the penalty area, sending the ball into the top-right corner.

Liverpool attempted to respond through Florian Wirtz, Lewis Koumas and Alexis Mac Allister, but Donnarumma remained alert. The goalkeeper produced important saves, preventing the home side from reducing the deficit.

Manchester City continued controlling possession and searching for another goal. Their attacking efforts eventually paid off when Rayan Cherki found the net in the 78th minute, finishing confidently after receiving a through ball from Josko Gvardiol.

Liverpool made several substitutions, introducing fresh players in search of a comeback, but Manchester City’s defence held firm. Donnarumma also denied Mac Allister from a free kick during the closing stages.

Despite late pressure and three minutes of added time, Liverpool could not score. Manchester City secured a convincing 3-0 victory, with Haaland, Doku and Cherki scoring after half-time to seal the result.
