Xabi Alonso Claims Chelsea Have A Trait He’s Never Seen As A Manager After Bournemouth Win

Xabi Alonso has admitted that Chelsea’s ability to score early goals is unlike anything he has experienced during his managerial career after the Blues recorded a convincing 5-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League.

According to a report by Football London on Sunday, 11 October 2026, the Chelsea manager was surprised by his team’s frequent fast starts, having also witnessed similar performances before their recent defeat to Brentford.

Chelsea made an explosive start at Bournemouth on Saturday, with Jordan Henderson opening the scoring after just two minutes before Morgan Rogers doubled the advantage shortly afterwards.

The victory continued a trend that had already been evident in previous matches. Rogers scored within the opening 10 minutes of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Hull City, demonstrating the team’s ability to trouble opponents early in games.

Alonso, who has previously managed Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, acknowledged that he had not encountered such a consistent run of early goals at his former clubs.

Speaking after the Bournemouth match, he said: “I have nothing to do [with it], so I don’t have the answer. We always speak about how we try to start the game with good energy, but I have no explanation, no credit to me.”

The Spaniard added: “It has never happened to me in such a short period to score that many early goals. So, let’s see if we can keep doing that.

“But after the goals, many other things need to happen. Maybe I prefer to score the first one in the last minute. It will happen one day, hopefully.”

Chelsea’s attacking players played a significant role in the emphatic result. Rogers scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season, while Joao Pedro found the net twice. Cole Palmer also contributed an assist despite failing to score.

However, Henderson emerged as one of the standout performers. The 36-year-old scored twice and provided an assist, becoming the oldest player in Chelsea’s history to be involved in three goals in a single Premier League match.

His performance was particularly encouraging for Alonso, given the concerns surrounding Chelsea’s midfield following Enzo Fernandez’s departure and Moises Caicedo’s injury problems.

Caicedo also delivered an impressive display against Bournemouth, offering the manager encouragement about the midfield partnership.
