The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast warning that several counties across the country are expected to receive rainfall from Saturday, October 10, to Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The forecast comes as Kenya enters the October-December short rains season, with residents in different regions expected to experience varying rainfall patterns.
According to the weather outlook, parts of Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Central Kenya, Northern Kenya and the Coast are among the areas expected to receive showers during the forecast period.
Counties in Western Kenya expected to experience rainfall include Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia. Some areas may experience thunderstorms alongside the showers.
In the Lake Victoria Basin, Kisumu and Siaya are expected to receive afternoon rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning possible in some locations. Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are also among the counties likely to experience showers.
The forecast also covers several counties in the Rift Valley, including West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, Kericho and Bomet.
In Central Kenya, residents of Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu should also prepare for rainfall at different times of the day. Nairobi is expected to experience showers during the forecast period.
Meanwhile, coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu, are also expected to receive rainfall, although the intensity may vary from one area to another.
The department has also indicated that parts of Eastern Kenya, including Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni, may experience showers.
Residents have been encouraged to remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly in areas prone to flooding and poor drainage.
Motorists should exercise caution on slippery roads, while residents living near rivers and other flood-prone areas should monitor water levels.
Farmers are also encouraged to use the forecast when planning agricultural activities during the ongoing short rains season.
Kenyans are advised to follow official weather updates for changes to the forecast and county-specific information.
