Kenya Met Names Counties to Receive Rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority has issued a weather forecast warning residents in several parts of the country to prepare for rainfall expected between Sunday, October 11, and Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

The latest forecast indicates that several regions, including Western Kenya, Nyanza, Central Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Coast and parts of Northern Kenya, will experience varying amounts of rainfall, with thunderstorms expected in some areas.

Western Kenya is among the regions likely to experience heavy downpours. Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia counties are expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

In the Lake Victoria Basin, Kisumu and Siaya are forecast to experience sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira are also expected to receive rainfall during the forecast period.

Residents in Central Kenya, including Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Embu, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi and Nyandarua, should also prepare for changing weather conditions. Nairobi is expected to experience light morning showers and moderate rainfall at different times.

In the Rift Valley, counties such as Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Baringo and Elgeyo-Marakwet are among the areas expected to receive showers, with thunderstorms possible in some locations.

The forecast also covers parts of the Coast and Northern Kenya, where rainfall is expected in several areas.

The announcement comes as Kenya enters the October-December short-rains season, a period when changing weather conditions can affect transport, farming and other daily activities.

Residents in areas expecting heavy rainfall are advised to remain alert, particularly when travelling through flood-prone areas. Motorists should exercise caution on slippery roads, while people living near rivers should monitor rising water levels.

Kenyans can follow the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority’s official updates for changes to the forecast and further information about weather conditions in their counties.
