Grambling State Police Chief releases statement following resignation

GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE) — Grambling State University Police Chief Rodney L. Demery has released a statement in the wake of his resignation.

Demery shared the statement to his Facebook page, expressing that his experience at Grambling helped renew his faith in the future after a long career as a homicide detective. He also reflected on meeting students whose parents’ murders he had investigated, saying their ability to flourish brought him “inspiration and healing beyond measure.”

“I am blessed and grateful to pursue exciting opportunities,” Demery said. “I am grateful to President Lemelle, our officers and the entire Gram Fam for the opportunity to serve.”

Demery said he was proud of his tenure, citing no murders on campus during his service, reduced violent crime, officers’ work to remove illegal firearms and protect students, and the start of a fellowship program for future law-enforcement professionals. He added that he remains available to support the leadership transition.

“I came to serve your students, and they gave me something I will carry for the rest of my life,” Demery said.
