Man arrested in Baxter Springs following stabbing

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — A Baxter Springs man is arrested on suspicion of stabbing another person early Saturday. The victim is currently in critical condition at an area hospital.

Baxter Springs Police Department says officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 300 block of East 11th Street in Baxter Springs. Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies along with officers from the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service, and Galena Police Department.

Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital with “multiple stab wounds.”

Authorities say the suspect, Tramone Howard-Hill, 23, of Baxter Springs, had left the scene before they arrived, but was found walking along Highway 69A north of the city and taken into custody.

Howard-Hill is being held in the Cherokee County jail on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He also has an outstanding warrant from Shawnee County for electronic solicitation of a child.

Cherokee County Sheriff Brian Henderson says his agency is handling the investigation which remains ongoing.
