SSS Director Told Me To Leave Kano; I Drove To FCT & Was Told I’d Have Died If I Hadn’t Left—Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, has stated that he escaped being killed in Kano State while campaigning for late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2014

In a video shared by News Central TV, Amaechi said he travelled to Kano to convince then Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso to support Buhari. He stated that when he wanted to leave Kano by private jet, airport authorities stopped the flight, claiming private jets were not allowed to depart at that time. He added that his team was also prevented from buying tickets for a commercial flight.

Amaechi said the Director of the State Security Service (SSS) in Kano arrived at the airport, saluted him and told him to leave Kano immediately because his safety could not be guaranteed.

Amaechi said he secretly travelled by road to Abuja and there he was told he would have died if he had remained in Kano. He said the incident did not stop him from continuing the campaign to remove the government of Goodluck Jonathan

In Amaechi’s words: “The Director of SSS drove in. What they forgot is that he was Director of SSS in Rivers State before he was posted to Kano. He saluted me and said ‘Sir, you must leave Kano now, if you don’t I can’t guarantee your safety’. He made adequate arrangements and I drove from Kano to Abuja. When we got to Abuja we switched on our phones and that is when I was told if I hadn’t left I would have died”
