Junet Mohamed Claims It Could Take Small Parities 40 Years to Match ODM’s National Strength

Junet Mohamed has warned leaders forming small political parties that building them into strong national outfits could take decades, citing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as an example of a party that has grown over time.

Speaking on October 10, 2026, Junet said it could take a new party up to 40 years to attain the kind of national strength currently associated with ODM.

Junet added that by the time such parties achieve comparable political influence, the country could have undergone major changes, using a reference to the return of Jesus to emphasized the length of time involved.

“I have seen people form small parties, but by the time your party grows into a national party like ODM, it will take you 40 years. By the time your party gains that kind of strength, Jesus will have already come to Kenya,” he said.

ODM has built a national political profile over the years, making it a reference point in discussions about party organisation and political mobilisation.

Junet’s comments come at a time some leaders have been launching political party ahead of the next General Election. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino are among the leaders who recently came up with political parties that they want to use in 2027.
