List of Counties to Recive Heavy Rainfall Starting Saturday Evening

Residents in much of the country should prepare for wet weather over the next week, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.

The authority released a seven-day forecast on its official Twitter account, valid from Friday, October 9 to October 16, 2026.

It listed 37 counties where rainfall is expected, warning that isolated storms could occur during the period.

Along the coast and in the north-east, rain is expected in Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale.

In western Kenya, the affected counties are Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya and Homa Bay.

The Rift Valley counties named are Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia.

Central and Mount Kenya residents in Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia and Nyandarua should also expect rain.

The department further noted that parts of Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Narok and Nairobi are likely to receive rainfall, though coverage there may be patchy.

It cautioned that rainfall distribution will vary, meaning not every area within a listed county will get the same amount.

The forecast comes as President William Ruto urged farmers to move away from rain-fed agriculture and adopt methods such as irrigation.

Speaking at the Agriculture and Food Security Transformation Summit at Jamhuri Park in Nairobi on Thursday, October 8, he pointed to the prolonged uncertainty over the arrival of El Niño rains.

Ruto questioned the wisdom of basing farming decisions on forecasts that have repeatedly failed to materialise on schedule.

He asked farmers to take greater control of their production instead of leaving it to unpredictable weather.
