Sifuna Speak on Oburu Oginga’s Health, Reveals Update He Received Through Veteran Leader’s Bodyguard

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed details of his last conversation with ODM leader Oburu Oginga, expressing hope that the veteran politician will recover fully and return to his leadership responsibilities.

Speaking during an interview with media houses at his office on Friday, October 9, 2026, Sifuna said their last communication occurred while Oburu was hospitalised before travelling to London.

The Nairobi senator explained that he communicated with Oburu through one of his bodyguards, who provided an update on the Siaya senator’s condition. According to Sifuna, the bodyguard informed him that Oburu was doing well and had been discharged from hospital.

Sifuna said the conversation reassured him about Oburu’s condition, although he continued to hope for his full recovery. He also recalled exchanging goodwill messages with the veteran politician during their communication.

“Think the last time I spoke to him, he was admitted to hospital before he went to London. We spoke to him through one of his bodyguards, who told me that he was okay and had been discharged from hospital, and we wished each other all the best,” Sifuna said.

The senator did not provide further details about Oburu’s medical condition or the circumstances surrounding his hospitalisation. However, he used the opportunity to reiterate his wishes for the ODM leader’s recovery and return to public service.

Sifuna said Oburu’s return would allow him to continue discharging his responsibilities as the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement and as the elected senator representing Siaya County.

“I still want to say that we wish him a speedy recovery so that he can return to work, resume his duties as the leader of ODM and continue serving as the Senator for Siaya County,” he stated.

Oburu, a veteran politician and elder brother of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, remains an influential figure within ODM, a party that has played a significant role in Kenya’s political landscape.

His health has attracted attention from political observers and party supporters, given his leadership position and responsibilities in Siaya County.

Sifuna’s remarks highlighted his hope that Oburu would regain his strength and resume his duties. The Nairobi senator offered no indication of when the ODM leader might return to work.

For now, Sifuna said his priority was to wish Oburu a speedy recovery, expressing hope that the veteran politician would return to his responsibilities and continue serving party members and the people of Siaya County.
