The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has stressed that politics is not without challenges and that internal party discipline must remain the priority.

According to him, entering politics does not mean expecting unanimous support at all times, noting that disagreements are part of the process.

Speaking on JoyNews on Saturday, February 7, 2026, he stated that his primary responsibility is to support the party’s leadership in Parliament and help secure electoral victory.

“There is a party leader, and my job in Parliament is to help achieve one goal, to win elections. That is it,” he stated.

Responding to questions about internal tensions and allegations of rallying support against the party’s flagbearer during the recent presidential primaries, he stressed that the party must protect its leader and rally behind the vision being pursued.

“We should begin to protect the leader, what he stands for and his vision for the party. We must bring everybody on board: all aspirants, individuals and constituency executives,” he said.

He disclosed that he has engaged the Central Regional Chairman and convened meetings with constituency executives, urging them to commit fully to the vision of the party’s flagbearer.

“Every constituency must commit to the vision of the leader. We must move together, continue the internal processes, and prepare ourselves for the task ahead. That is what matters,” he added.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31.

The former Vice President secured a decisive victory with 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 percent, positioning him to lead the party into the next general elections.
