Omphile Sekhute, Stephen Marè, Nkazimulo Sigasa and Katherine Henderson will fly the Gauteng Ekurhuleni Tennis Association (GETA) flag high when they tour the United Kingdom later this year, after earning selection to the South Africa Schools team.
Sekhute, Marè and Sigasa were selected for the U15 team, while Henderson was selected for the U13 side.
The talented quartet booked their places following sensational performances for their region at the recent interprovincial tournament (IPT) in Pretoria and Bloemfontein, respectively, where they stood out among the country’s most promising young players.

During the tour, the SA team will visit several clubs affiliated with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and enjoy the rare opportunity to witness the world’s best players in action at Wimbledon.
IPT results
Captain Henderson and co competed in scorching conditions at the Tennis Free State Courts in Bloemfontein. The team suffered two losses in the group stage and won only one. They redeemed themselves in the 9-16 place play-offs, winning three matches to finish 9th overall.

At Groenkloof Tennis Club in Pretoria, the U15s finished 13th overall in a tournament affected by rain, while the U19 team were 10th.
“We are very proud of all our teams. They performed really well and represented GETA with pride. Good luck to our GETA players in the SA Schools team. We are super proud to have you representing our district,” said GETA junior tennis chairperson Karen McRae.
