Sifuna Reacts to Oburu’s Health Condition, Reveals What He Suspects — Details

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has reacted to the false reports circulating online claiming that party leader Oburu Oginga had died.

Sifuna said he hoped Oburu was well but questioned the source and timing of the reports that caused concern among Kenyans and members of the ODM party.

“We hope he is well, but I suspect these bloggers were hired by the government to spread the information,” Sifuna said while discussing the rumours surrounding Oburu’s health.

His remarks came as the country continued following updates on Oburu, who remains in hospital as he recovers from an illness.

The reports about his alleged death spread widely on social media on Tuesday, October 6, prompting strong responses from his family, ODM officials and other political leaders. Oburu’s office later dismissed the claims, saying he was alive, safe and in good spirits.

The ODM leadership urged Kenyans to rely on official communication when seeking information about the party leader’s health.

Oburu’s son, Jaoko, also gave an update, saying his father was recovering and had been placed under strict medical guidelines. He explained that doctors wanted him to rest and limit physical engagements while they continued monitoring his condition.

On Wednesday, October 7, Jaoko delivered a message from his father during the handover of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum in Bondo, after Oburu was unable to attend the ceremony.

Jaoko told those gathered that his father was doing much better and remained grateful for the prayers and support he had received.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga had also visited Oburu and said he was recovering steadily and was in high spirits.

The latest developments have helped clarify Oburu’s situation after the death reports caused widespread concern.

For now, his family and party officials continue to ask Kenyans to pray for his recovery and avoid spreading unverified information about his health.
