The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has renewed calls for deeper continental integration.
The Bawku Central MP urged African leaders to prioritise visa-free travel and a common African passport.
He said easing movement across borders is critical to unlocking trade, innovation and youth opportunities on the continent.
The lawmaker made the call at the closing ceremony of the African Prosperity Dialogue in Accra on Friday, February 6.
Mr Ayariga argued that Africa has already tested the benefits of free movement at regional levels, particularly in West Africa.
He noted that despite progress within regional blocs, Africans still face barriers when moving across the continent for work, education and business.
Endorsing the borderless Africa agenda, the Majority Leader said Ghana’s Parliament is prepared to back the vision with legislation.
“We want a visa-free Africa, and we are on the threshold of one African passport.
“Our Parliament stands ready to pass all the agreements needed to grant visa-free status to every African,” Mr Ayariga stated.
Drawing on his experience as a former member of the ECOWAS Parliament, Mr Ayariga said many of the demands being raised have already been implemented within regional groupings.
According to him, the next step is to harmonise these gains across Africa so all citizens benefit equally.
