Police arrest two suspected street robbers at Dzorwulu

The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers following an intelligence-led patrol operation at Dzorwulu in Accra.

In a statement signed by the Greater Accra Regional Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the police said that on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, a patrol team on routine motorbike patrol encountered two suspicious persons riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike.

The suspects—Stephen Gletsu, 37, who was riding the motorbike, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20, the pillion rider—were both dressed in all-black attire and wore black helmets. The pillion rider was observed wielding a cutlass.

Upon spotting the police, the suspects sped off, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, warning shots were fired, causing the suspects to lose control of the motorbike and fall near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission. They attempted to flee on foot but were tracked and arrested by the patrol team.

Items retrieved from the suspects included an Infinix mobile phone, an iPhone 12 Pro, a Samsung A21, an iPhone 15 Pro, an iPhone 13, an Infinix feature phone, an itel feature phone, a Nokia feature phone, an Infinix X6528 phone, a necklace, and cash amounting to GH¢2,690 and US$2.

The suspects sustained injuries during the arrest and were taken to the Police Hospital for treatment before being discharged. During interrogation, they reportedly admitted to robbing several victims within Accra.

“Statements have been obtained from several victims who have identified both the accused persons and their stolen mobile phones,” the police said.

Further investigations led to the arrest of four additional accomplices, who are currently assisting police with investigations.

Meanwhile, Gletsu and Sheriff have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear in court on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
