Agyapong, Acheampong, Agyapong and Adutwum all lost their bids to lead the NPP
After a competitive presidential primaries, all the contenders in the race for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer slot have publicly conceded and pledged their support to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
They have also individually urged party members to unite ahead of the 2028 general election.
This was after Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was declared the winner of the contest by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The results from the polls gave the former vice president of Ghana an wide win, ahead of his closest contender; Kennedy Agyapong.

Here’s a breakdown of the remarks made by the four other candidates in the race after the final declaration of results were made:
1. Kennedy Agyapong
The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, accepted defeat in the primaries and called on his supporters to respect the delegates’ decision.
He urged calm and emphasised the importance of working together for the party’s success.
“The delegates have spoken, and I want to appeal to my supporters to stay calm, accept the results, and help us work together to win the 2028 election,” he said.
He further stressed that unity comes with mutual respect and tolerance for differing views.
2. Kwabena Agyepong
The former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong, called on party members to reconnect with the NPP’s founding ideals and rebuild trust with the public.
He emphasised that the party’s future depends on collective efforts, from grassroots to national leadership.
“This is a moment for us to go back to the values that shaped this party and made it strong,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that the party could regain voters’ confidence and return to power in 2028.
3. Dr Bryan Acheampong
Dr bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, congratulated Dr Bawumia on his victory and confirmed he had personally reached out to offer his support.
He thanked his family, senior party figures, fellow aspirants, and the party’s Presidential Elections Committee for guidance and cooperation.
He then called on the NPP to rebuild public trust, strengthen its structures, and prepare for the 2028 general election.
“Now more than ever, the NPP must stand united as one family,” he said
4. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum
The former Minister of Education and sitting MP for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwun, conceded defeat and pledged full support to Dr Bawumia.
He stated that the party’s future success depends on unity and collective effort, not individual ambition.
“I believe the elephant will come back on track. We will secure victory in 2028,” he said.
He then thanked his family, supporters, and the people of Bosomtwe for their support, while urging all members to rally behind the flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
As the NPP looks ahead to 2028, these endorsements reflect early efforts to heal what many believe are divisions within the party and project unity after a competitive internal contest.
