South Dayi MP and NDC legal team member, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has urged party supporters to remain calm and law-abiding after a court decision went against the party, insisting the legal battle is not over.
Speaking after the ruling, Dafeamekpor said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) respects the decision of the court and will guide its candidates on the next steps to take once the full ruling is made available.
“We are guided by this decision, and, therefore, we will advise our candidates in the matter regarding the next steps to take,” he stated.
However, he questioned some aspects of the matter before the court, arguing that the court should focus on the gazette notification published by the Assembly Press, rather than any Electoral Commission document presented in Parliament.
According to him, the gazette notification is a public document and cannot be dismissed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after benefiting from it.
“The NPP cannot benefit from that gazette notification, come to court and say that it is not the proper document,” he stressed.
He also accused the NPP of double standards in its attitude towards the judiciary, saying the party attacks the courts when rulings go against them but praises the same courts when decisions favour them.
“The NPP, when the Tamale court gave a decision in our favour, they call the court a kangaroo court. Today, when they got the court decision in their favour, they are singing the praises of the court,” he said.
Despite the disappointment, he said the NDC will not resort to agitation, stressing that the party remains committed to lawful processes.
“But we, we are law-abiding,” he added.
He appealed to party members and supporters, particularly those in Kpandai, to stay calm and maintain peace.
“We want to urge our team members and supports, both here and in Kpandai, to remain calm,” he said.
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor noted that the court is expected to provide the full ruling by February 6, after which the NDC will obtain a certified true copy and study it before taking further action.

“This is not the end… the ruling of the court will be found… by the 6th of February. When we obtain the ruling, and the certified true copy, and we study it, we will advise ourselves,” he explained.
He added that the party still has legal options available, including applying for a review.
“There is a review option. This matter is not ended,” he said, repeating for emphasis that the case is far from over.
