“Obi Obi Obi” — Drama as Crowd Drowns Out Kalu During Tinubu Campaign in Abia

According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, November 8, 2026, a crowd disrupted Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, with repeated chants of “Obi Obi Obi” while he was campaigning for President Bola Tinubu in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the Item Okpi Festival in Bende Local Government Area, where Kalu mounted the stage to solicit support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The Deputy Speaker was addressing residents when he urged them to vote for the President, describing him as the best candidate for the country.

However, his appeal was met with an unexpected reaction as members of the crowd began chanting the name of Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate.

“Obi! Obi! Obi!” the crowd repeatedly shouted as Kalu attempted to continue his address.

The situation reportedly intensified as the chants grew louder, making it difficult for the Deputy Speaker to communicate his campaign message.

Footage of the incident showed Kalu attempting to shout above the noise and calm the gathering, but the crowd continued chanting Obi’s name.

Some attendees were also seen standing and raising their hands as the chanting continued, overshadowing the campaign appearance.

The incident attracted attention after footage of the event circulated widely on social media, showing the crowd’s reaction to Kalu’s endorsement of Tinubu.
