“Is CBN Gov, IGP, DSS DG, COAS From North? Tinubu Has Favoured His Region More Than Others–Charanchi
According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Jamilu Aliu Charanchi, the National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could suffer a major political setback in Northern Nigeria during the 2027 presidential election, even if all APC governors in the region support his re-election.
Charanchi explained that Tinubu’s chances of winning support in the North would depend largely on whether the 2027 election is free, fair and transparent.
He argued that the support of Northern governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not automatically mean that ordinary people in the region will vote for the president. According to him, the final decision rests with the voters, not political office holders.
The CNG coordinator also warned against assuming that the political influence of governors would translate into widespread support for the ruling party during the election.
He stressed that the concerns of ordinary Northerners, especially the Talakawas and people struggling financially, must be considered when judging Tinubu’s performance and popularity in the region.
Charanchi suggested that many governors were more interested in protecting their political positions than addressing the economic and security problems affecting the people they represent.
He also questioned claims that the Tinubu administration had done more for Northern Nigeria than previous governments or given the region enough attention since taking office.
According to him, insecurity, poverty, economic difficulties and the increasing number of children who are out of school remain major problems in the North that require urgent attention from the federal government.
While responding to questions about the achievements of the Tinubu administration in the region, Charanchi challenged the suggestion that the president had performed better in Northern Nigeria than his predecessors.
He pointed to the challenges still facing many communities and questioned how the administration’s performance could be considered successful when several basic problems remained unresolved.
The CNG coordinator also raised concerns about the distribution of important government appointments, particularly positions in security agencies and major economic institutions.
He argued that looking at the regional backgrounds of people occupying some of the country’s most important offices would help Nigerians understand how appointments under the Tinubu administration had been shared.
Among the positions he mentioned were the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Minister of Finance, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff and the Director-General of the Department of State Services.
He also questioned the regional representation of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the head of Immigration and officials leading the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
“How? Is the CBN Governor from the North, is the Finance minister from the north, is the IGP from the North, is the COAS? Go and do your investigation and see. DSS DG, where is he from? The Customs CG, where is he from? What of Immigration, what of FIRS?”
He further argued that the distribution of these appointments showed that the Tinubu administration had given more attention to the president’s region than other parts of the country.
“If you do the arithmetic, you will see that Tinubu has favoured his region more than any other region in this country. That is the truth of the matter,” he added.
