Kuami Eugene Aims for Shatta Wale’s Level of Influence as He Slows Music Releases
Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene says he hopes to build a lasting career that will allow him to remain relevant without constantly releasing new music, citing dancehall artiste Shatta Wale as an example of the level he wants to reach.
Speaking on Pluzz FM on November 5, 2026, the “Angela” hitmaker said he is placing greater emphasis on strengthening his reputation and building a legacy that can endure beyond individual releases.
“I’m praying that I’ll get to Shatta Wale’s level, where you don’t have to do much,” he said.
Kuami Eugene said he has deliberately reduced the frequency of his releases to see whether his fans will continue to support him during longer breaks.
The singer said he intends to give his song Stranger more time before introducing another project. He believes the approach will help him assess the strength of his relationship with his audience.
He stressed that slowing down does not mean he is abandoning music, but that he no longer feels the same pressure to release songs as frequently as before.
The musician explained that earning money is no longer his primary motivation because royalties, publishing income and investments have provided him with financial stability.
He said those returns have given him room to focus on consolidating his achievements and securing a lasting place in the music industry.
Comparing his career to a university education, Kuami Eugene described himself as a Level 400 student approaching graduation. He said he had moved beyond the foundational stages and was now working to cement his position.
Kuami Eugene also pointed to the influence of TikTok on music consumption, saying the platform has contributed to pressure on artistes to release new songs regularly to retain listeners’ attention.
His decision to slow down reflects his desire to give his music more time while building the kind of recognition and fan loyalty he hopes will sustain his career for years to come.
