How Ruto Was Received During Launch of Ksh1B Stadium as Matiangi Pokes Holes on His Tour
Nyamira County has become a busy political stage after President William Ruto toured the area and forcing former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to react to his visit within hours.
This account has been drawn from two sources: a post by Ruto on X and a K24 TV post on Facebook.
Ruto has announced that he has launched construction of Magwagwa Stadium in North Mugirango Constituency. He has described the KSh1 billion facility as a platform where young people have a chance to nurture their sporting talents and realise their full potential.
He has also pointed out that the government has been building 33 modern sports facilities across the country. The photos he has shared have shown a huge crowd, with plenty of yellow and orange, that has packed the grounds around his vehicle.
Matiang’i, for his part, has not been impressed. K24 TV has reported that he has told crowd in Nanyuki that the president has launched projects four times during the visit, and that these have been Constituency Development Fund projects.
He has argued that national government work has stalled, and that the president has been searching for ways to mislead people every day.
However, across the Gusii region, President Ruto has today drawn massive crowd while launching various projects.
Ruto has leaned on development and opportunity for young people, while Matiang’i has questioned how real that delivery has been.
Whether the stadium has won over local residents, or Matiang’i’s criticism has shifted opinion, has yet to be seen. What has been clear is that Nyamira has remained contested ground, and each side has worked to claim it.
For now, the stadium has been launched, the criticism has been voiced, and the people of Nyamira have been left to weigh both.
