Aldrine Kibet Impresses Kenyans After He Was Captured Addressing Journalist in Fluent Spanish
Kenyan footballer Aldrine Kibet has impressed many football fans after displaying his Spanish-speaking skills during a post-match interview in Spain.
The young midfielder appeared comfortable speaking the foreign language as he explained his team’s performance following a disappointing result.
Kibet was interviewed by a journalist after Celta Fortuna suffered a 2-1 defeat against Burgos on Saturday, November 7. Despite the disappointment, the Kenyan youngster confidently responded to the questions in Spanish without appearing to struggle.
During the interview, Kibet explained that his team knew they were facing a difficult opponent, especially because Burgos had a strong home record.
He revealed that Celta Fortuna had started the match positively and managed to score the opening goal. However, the team later lost concentration on two occasions, allowing their opponents to score twice and take control of the game.
The young footballer admitted that he was disappointed with the result but noted that the experience had given the players important lessons. He explained that maintaining concentration throughout the match was important because even small mistakes could cost a team valuable points.
What particularly caught the attention of Kenyans was how comfortably Kibet communicated in Spanish. His ability to express himself in the language demonstrated how much he had adapted to life and football in Spain.
Kibet’s journey to Spanish football began after he attracted attention while playing for St Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale. He helped the school win the 2023 national secondary school football championship, earning the Most Valuable Player award and finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
In September 2023, he moved to Spain and joined Nastic Sports Academy, where he continued developing his football skills.
His impressive progress later attracted the attention of Spanish club Celta Vigo, which officially signed him in July 2025 on a four-year contract running until 2029.
The club initially registered him with its youth team while allowing him to feature for Celta Fortuna, its reserve side.
Kibet has continued working towards establishing himself in Spanish football as he pursues his dream of reaching the highest level of the game.
