From Multimedia University To WWE: Brian Obuchi Makes History As First Kenyan EVS Replay Operator

Brian Obuchi, a Kenyan broadcast technology expert, has made history after becoming the first Kenyan to work with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as an EVS replay operator.

Obuchi, an alumnus of the Multimedia University of Kenya, has built an impressive career in sports broadcasting, having previously worked with SuperSport. He has also been part of the technical production team behind major international sporting events, including the 2024 Spanish Super Cup clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

As an EVS replay operator, Obuchi plays an important role in television productions by managing live video footage, providing instant replays and delivering slow-motion sequences that enhance viewers’ and spectators’ experiences.

Before his first WWE assignment, Obuchi expressed excitement about achieving a childhood dream, recalling how he grew up watching professional wrestling on television while living in the village.

“Today is a very special day for me because I am part of the crew doing WWE wrestling live. I will be here live, the first Kenyan doing WWE live, representing the flag,” he said.

He added that growing up watching legendary wrestlers such as John Cena, The Undertaker and The Rock made the opportunity particularly meaningful.

After the assignment, Obuchi revealed that he had worked on WWE Crown Jewel, one of the biggest events in professional wrestling, as an EVS Replay Operator.

He explained that his responsibilities included operating and controlling the main arena screens to deliver live visuals and improve the experience for wrestling fans attending the event.

Obuchi described working alongside an international team of experienced broadcast professionals as an incredible opportunity to learn, develop his skills and improve his technical expertise.

His achievement marks an important milestone for Kenya’s sports broadcasting industry, demonstrating how local professionals can secure opportunities at the highest levels of international sports and entertainment production.
