McDonald Mariga and Six Other Officials Expelled From FKF in Major Leadership Shake-Up

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has expelled Vice-President McDonald Mariga and six other National Executive Committee members following a tense Special General Meeting held in Meru on Saturday, November 7.

The decision marks a major development in the leadership dispute that has affected the federation for several months.

The other officials affected are Robert Macharia, Bernard Lagat, Violet Kerubo Momanyi, Collins Opiyo Kalee, Gabriel Mghendi and Daniel Akala Shikanda.

According to the federation’s statement, the General Assembly considered allegations of serious and repeated violations of the FKF Constitution and applicable football regulations.

The issues included a disputed resolution made on April 24, 2026, which sought to remove FKF President Hussein Mohammed and other federation officials. The assembly also considered allegations that the seven officials had repeatedly failed to attend properly convened executive meetings.

The meeting attracted representatives from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football, as well as officials from Kenya’s State Department for Sports.

However, the gathering was marked by tension. Daily Nation reported that police fired tear gas as disagreements over access to the meeting venue disrupted proceedings.

The expulsion decision was also followed by objections from some affected officials. Nairobi representative Dan Shikanda questioned whether the meeting followed proper procedures and indicated that the group could challenge the decision.

The development leaves Kenyan football facing important questions about leadership, accountability and the stability of its governing body.

FKF says it will communicate further on implementing the resolutions and making the necessary administrative arrangements.

The dispute’s next stage could determine whether the decision brings stability to the federation or leads to another legal and administrative battle.
